Director Ladislav Kaboš, laureate of the "Krištálové krídlo" and the Igric award, reflects in his latest film work "the great history of the 20th century in the fate of the individual".
Carpathian German Hans Broos (1921-2011), a native of Veľká Lomnica, had to leave Czechoslovakia after the end of World War II, where his ancestors lived for centuries. He found a new home in 1953 in Brazil.
The full-length feature documentary film „Architekt drsnej poetiky“ tells the story using an internal monologue. The film shows the dramatic journey of an immigrant, the difficult process of adapting in a foreign country and explores the possibilities of using an individual’s talent in society. Broos in Brazil created a remarkable architectural work. He did not give up even at the end of his life when he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
The architectural office of Hans Broos in São Paulo created more than 140 realized projects in the architectural style of brutalism. He knew how to sensitively integrate architecture into nature. Broos’ collaborators and students – professors of architecture at the Faculty of Florianopolis – have already published a second book about him. Three of his buildings are listed in the list of cultural monuments of the city of São Paulo. His name is among the most important creators of modern Brazilian architecture.
The film contains fascinating archives, quotes from authentic correspondence with the father and those closest to him. It touches on the still taboo topic of the displacement of the German population after World War II.
The exciting story of Hans Broos is also the story of all emigrants who have to look for new opportunities for their employment. It catches the eye with Martin Šec’s creative camera, the sensitive acting performance of Imre Boráros – the actor of the Jókai Theater in Komárno, and the emotional form of storytelling. A film that discovers another important native, about whom no one in Slovakia knew until recently.
