EXPLORE: KANALIZACIJA A CLUTCH AT STRAWS

In collaboration with the Sharpe Showcase Festival, we’re bringing a new format called “Explore” where we’ll be showcasing interesting young music groups on a regular basis at
European scene. We will start right away in a slightly non-standard way. Alt-indie-jazz rock from Vilnius and mid-west emo from Vienna? A bit of a polar opposite and that’s great! Do you want?

KANALIZACIJA (LT): LITHUANIAN INDIE-JAZZ ROCK

Do you want it? Kanalizacija: a phenomenon where the tube holds the bass line and the saxophone replaces the singer. Where the guitar emits a psychedelic weep and the drums shift imperceptibly from light groove to heavy metal. Whatever. Where the songs have a catchy chorus, but the verses aren’t so much verses as they get tangled up in free jazz madness. The wild and furious boyband version from Vilnius flushes any hint of negative energy or emotion down the drain. You can come check it out.

CLUTCH AT STRAWS (AT): PROG HARDCORE

Do stories define our reality or does reality define our stories? Dreamy, hazy, colourful, harmonic, bare, and dissonant: mid-west, screamo, progressive hardcore with a hint of traditional emo. That’s Clutch at Straws too. Unconventional compositional structures collide with standardized influences defined by the sludge/hardcore scene.
